If you've been charged with a crime, you should be aware that New Jersey has 1st to 4th Degree Crimes. New Jersey "Crimes" equate to other State's crimes called "Felonies."
1st degree crimes are the most serious and include charges such as murder. Punishable by incarceration in a state prison for 10-20 years or life in prison.
2nd degree crimes carry a sentence of 5-10 years in state prison.
3rd degree crimes carry a sentence of 3-5 years in state prison.
4th degree crimes carry a sentence of up to 18 months in state prison.
Disorderly and Petty Disorderly Offenses which are normally handled in Municipal Court and carry a maximum sentence of up to six months in County Jail and a fine of $1000.00. These "offenses" equate to other State's "misdemeanors."

This experience allows the client to attain favorable negotiate plea bargains resulting in substantial downgrades to the original charges as well when applicable admission to diversionary pre-trial programs such as PTI (Pre-trial Intervention Program), Drug Court, and CD (Conditional Discharge Program). These diversionary programs allow the charged client to complete a probationary program at which time all charges are dismissed. Additionally the law firm can handle expungements of charges and arrest records allowing clients to show a clean criminal background check.
